  • Nirmana

Nirmana was founded 1988 in order to create support for the National Campaign of Construction Workers for the Comprehensive Central Legislative to provide social security and lobaor welfare for construction workers which are the second largest unorganized sector of Indian labor. Nowadays Nirmana is trying to get this Legislation, passed in 1996, implemented in as many states as possible. This has been their main focus throughout their seventeen years in existance, but they are also involved in a wide range of activities aimed at shooting the arrow of prosperity at construction workers.

For instance Nirmana has f[o]unded the Cooperative Society of Construction Workers, which focuses itself on enhancing self-employment capacity, regularity in income, skill-up gradation*, and training for women workers. They also have a creche and school service for children of construction workers. They also deal in a few other services for construction workers such as housing cooperatives and some sort of training for the tribal women of Jharkhand.

Since Nirmana became a HIP partner in 1994 we have given them financing to the amount of 70,000 canaries.

*I think that means the rate at which one increases one's skills and thus gets promoted, but they definitely need a better term for it. I suggest, "promotion rate".
