The Kimasxi

< Tarazelle > Strong praise coming from you. This wouldn't have anything to do with that Golden Chain incident would it?

< Pascale > Nothing whatsoever. How dare you question my objectivity!

The Kimasxi are a race of physically powerful mountain-dwelling humanoids. They tend to live in small highly fortified hill-fortresses. They also tend towards isolationism and are very distrustful of outsiders of all sorts.

Personality: The Kimasxi are known for their deep sense of honor and personal responsibility. These serious folk always feel as if all responsibility for the world around them is on their own shoulders. Deeply aware of the great responsibilities imposed upon them from birth the Kimasxi are also obsessed with honor and being worthy. Thus they will often react violently to slurs open their honor. Furthermore any actual failing in honor in themselves or others will be sharply met with recrimations in the first case or insults and swords in the latter.

Physical Description: Tall, with thick well muscled legs that bend backwards at knee when they jump and long hair that is usually in one big braid. But can be easily mistaken for a Sorvanni (human) until they jump.

Alignment: The Kimasxi tend to be Lawful Neutral. Although they always try to do good they usually take a heavily self-righteous view and believe that their policy of zero-tolerance is always the best. However they will always follow the laws of their homeland to a tee, though not necessarily those of the land they are in. They will never break a promise, nor lie if they have given their word.

Effects of War: In the Old World the Kimasxi lived in the hills and mountains directly south of the Selevani kingdoms. The main city of the region was Wessmark, City of Walls. This city had been taken and retaken by the Selevani and the Kimasxi in turn, each one adding new walls to the city. In the end the Kimasxi finally managed to retain it for nearly 200 years until its destruction. It was the last major city taken by the Kaelra and the first to be liberated. The Kimasxi were generally isolationist, ignoring the other races, their only true friends were the Suranzi. During the war the Kimasxi were divided. They had chafed under Sorvanni rule for many years. The Kaelra, who had no interest in their highland mountains, offered them autonomy. However many of them were true patriots, and resented any implication of overlordship. Thus the Kimasxi clans split down the middle. The anti-Kaelran movement was led by the city of Wessmark while the pro-Kaelran movement was led by the city of Granfir. During the War of Daggers, when the resistance movement was being led out of Wessmark it was the people of Granfir who aided the Kaelra, and were just barely kept from uncovering the entire network. During the War of Lighting Flames Granfir was besieged, surrendered, and was burned to the ground while its citizens watched. During the War of the Earth Jhundarth led the entire population of Wessmark, and the surrounding Kimasxi areas (including the people of Granfir) to the abandoned Selevani city of Sevgarn and loaded them onto the fleet he had called there from every part of the world.. After a long journey, which is a story in itself, they arrived in Jascarle’s Bay and founded the city of New Wessmark

Known Kimasxi Lands: In the centuries since their arrival the Kimasxi have slowly spread out from New Wessmark, which remains their stronghold. Instead of forming Kimasxi communities elsewhere, most of the Kimasxi have made their way to New Wessmark, no matter from where they came to the New World.

Religion: Kimasxi worship Hjarran, God of Honor. They are extremely devout, with the 6th, 12th, and 18th of every month being given to prayer. On worship days Kimasxi are expected to tide 10% of their income, although no one can force them to. Furthermore following a duel or battle 50% of the spoils should be given to the Hjarran. All major Kimasxi clans trace their ancestry back to their god.

Language: Kimasxi speak Korash, a harsh though strangely graceful language that sounds much like german.

Usually all members of a clan reside in one area and in a typical small town there might be 3 or 4 clans. Nobles have von [name of home area] attached to their name and no clan name.

Adventurers: Although tending to be insular as a group Kimasxi make enthusiastic adventurers. Because of their emphasis on honor and glory the Kimasxi will often go out into the world to do good. They will most often adventure for prestige and to gain experience. Kimasxi tend to be rangers, barbarians, and fighters. Theft is severely punished, thus most rogues tend to be more like scouts. Wizardry and Sorcery are heavily frowned upon as not being worthy of a warrior and will result in expulsion by some of the reactionary clans.

Notable Rituals:

Fighting – All Kimasxi receive training in the warrior’s arts and are expected to acquit themselves well in a fight. However most take it no further than this, and opt for a more sedentary lifestyle. Although the public sees the Kimasxi as brawlers their core is honor, not arms.

Roll of Heroes – At any time in a Kimasxi’s life, if he has been exceptionally valorous, he can join his clan’s Roll of Heroes. To do this one of the existing living heroes must sponsor him and then the matter must be taken to a vote before the whole of the clan. The vote must be unanimous, however if someone opposes then someone can duel him on behalf of the applicant (but it cannot be the applicant or the sponsor). This process continues until either all detractors have been killed or surrendered, or no one is willing to duel on the applicants behalf. In the former case the applicant is added to the Roll of Heroes and in the latter he is not. A Kimasxi Hero becomes one of the nobles of his clan and is entitled to add Lord and von [area] to his name as well as participate in major decisions by his clan.

Duelling – Kimasxi practice the Iajitsu duel, as described in Oriental Adventures

Day of Heroes – All clans celebrate the day of their founding. On this day there are services in the morning and the entire roster of that clan’s Roll of Heroes is read aloud. During the day there are continual duels and drinking as well as tales of that clan’s heroes. Visitors are welcome to attend all aspects of this day, except the service in the morning, because the clans always hope to impress others with their own prowess. All Kimasxi are expected to make it home on this day, otherwise they must pay penance.
